Maison MINATEC, Ground floor

Green coal comes to surface in Grenoble! CEA has been experimenting with various techniques to produce energy which can fuel the city of the future.

The project aims at producing electric energy from the activity of living microorganisms’ such as bacteria, by transforming the energy stocked in various substrates like marine sediments and mud. These organic batteries generate electricity either in a direct way as ‘bacteria breathe electrons’, or indirectly through producing gas which will then be transformed by a hydrogen battery.

This research will be illustrated by a three-tier scenario. A bungalow filled with jars containing plants required for producing electricity; the jars supply energy to a mock up of a city of the future and in the end, visitors are invited to delve into this experience in an immersive environment built from projections on Procédés Chénel paper. See you in Bioville!
