“Low-tech” puts forward simple, accessible and sustainable solutions as a response to basic needs: water, food and energy. It follows the principle of frugal innovation; to do better with less. Artistic procedures have always involved reusing or altering everyday objects, ie. Dada movement. Today, low-tech has an ecological dimension with the aim to reduce its impacts on consumer society. It also has various dimensions depending on the territory; designing “low-tech” in Africa, Europe or Asia takes on different forms. This round table will investigate what role “low-tech” plays as a source of creation and will also look at the interaction and complementarity between “high-tech” and “low-tech”.
