With the series Dolor, Charlotte Audureau proposes work that is both documentary and experimental.
The series reveals the intimacy of each dancer’s pain through their medical examinations. The spectre of medical imagery looms like a watermark over the injured dancers’ bodies. The artist superimposes the examinations, MRIs, X-rays and scans on top of the photographs of the moving bodies. The dancers’ suffering bodies hence become a research subject. How do they live with their injuries? The artistic approach enables them to make their pain visible and confers meaning on it in an attempt to heal it.
